Some recent listings on the game rental service GameFly seem to suggest that a standalone release for Modern Warfare Remastered could be happening sooner than fans may think.
According to Charlie Intel, the listings point to a June 20th release for the PlayStation 4 version of Modern Warfare Remastered, and a July 20th release for the Xbox One version. This would fit in with the current deal Sony and Activision have which allows PS4 players to play Call of Duty DLC first.
Although, this would technically be the first time the timed exclusivity deal applied to an entire game. Currently, the only way to obtain a copy of Modern Warfare Remastered is to buy select editions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare which have Modern Warfare Remastered packaged in as well.
Neither Activision nor developer Infinity Ward have commented on the possibility of a standalone release for Modern Warfare Remastered. However, considering how much fans disliked having to buy Infinite Warfare just to get their hands on Modern Warfare Remastered, offering a standalone option seems like a good call to make.
